AmazonBasics 8-Sheet High-Security Micro-Cut Shredder
Quickly Shreds Confidential Info
Thoroughly shred multi-page documents (up to eight sheets at a time) with this AmazonBasics high-security micro-cut shredder. Offering a continuous shred cycle of two minutes, the machine quickly turns paper into tiny confetti-like pieces.
Micro-Cut: 6X Smaller than Cross-Cut
The micro-cut shredder turns a letter-size sheet of paper into about 2,235 pieces, each measuring 5/32 by 15/32 inches (4 by 12 mm). By comparison, that same sheet of paper becomes only 360 pieces using a typical cross-cut shredder.
Use the powerful micro-cut shredder to shred anything from living wills, house deeds, and social-security cards to medical records, bank statements, old tax returns, and other sensitive documents. Even more, the shredder can handle small paper clips and staples for timesaving convenience.
Helps Safeguard Your Identity
Choose the AmazonBasics micro-cut shredder when you need to destroy the most sensitive information. The shredder provides a high level of security--perfect for protecting you and your family's identity at home or client information, business records, and highly classified documentation at work.
Destroys CDs, DVDs, and Credit Cards
Inserted one at a time into the designated slot, CDs, DVDs, and Blu Rays are cut into pieces rendering them useless and credit cards are micro-cut into tiny pieces for valuable peace of mind.
Easy Operation and Pullout Bin
In auto mode, shredding begins once the sensor detects something to be shredded. In the unlikely event of a paper jam, manual reverse helps clear it out.
The micro-cut shredder will run continuously for 2 minutes before needing a 40-minute cool-down. If it shreds continuously beyond the max running time and begins to overheat, the unit will automatically shut off to protect the motor.
The paper shredder’s pullout waste bin offers a large capacity, holding up to 3 gallons before needing to be emptied. Perfect for use in a busy office, the high-security micro-cut shredder takes up minimal floor space, and its smooth-rolling wheels allow for convenient placement. SAMPLE CUSTOMER REVIEWS –
1) It's powerful, foolproof, and secure... and my receptionist shreds EVERYTHING.... - Other reviewers have mentioned that the paper must be placed from the SIDE and not the TOP of the shredding-feeder. Nothing against anyone else's opinion, but this is actually an IMPROVEMENT over most micro-cut shredders. Other units have a tiny slit at the feeder mechanism, making it a chore just to align the paper to be shredded.
If you have 8 sheets or less just jam them in and the shredder will do the rest. Other reviewers have said that the paper needs to be aligned properly. I'm a doctor, and we use this at the reception area.ALL DAY LONG. If the paper goes in sideways, the shredder pulls it in and shreds it completely. If you shred only one piece of paper at a time, I will agree there is some resistance from the unit - what we do is just fold it over to create a more sturdy document.
It's a great shredder for the money. It can take a doctor's office's receptionist shredding 4-5 sheets every few minutes. It's powerful, and secure. You know you need it. Get it, and forget it.
Useful tip - use plastic grocery bags as a liner in the bin to catch the clippings. Makes for much easier emptying. Most shredders these days don't allow this because there must be a TIGHT seal of the lid or the unit won't run. In this unit's case, the bin is SEPARATE from the catch-switches that would create this problem. Good deal.
ANOTHER USEFUL TIP: Use some type of light oil on the shredder 'teeth' every now and again. I Use WD-40, and it works just fine as anything else. If you don't oil it and it is geting heavy use, it can start to misbehave and jam up. :-)
UPDATE 20-NOV-13 - started using the 3-in-1 oil last week instead of WD40, and it works much, much better. With the WD40, I was hearing some more noise coming from the unit after a day or 2 - with the 3-in-12 oil, there is NO EXCESS noise.

2) Good shredder for the money - I have bought and used many shredders over the past 10 years between personal and business use. I have learned a few things (the hard way) so now I apply what I have learned to all shredders. They all over heat if you use them continuously, so with any shredder use it here and there and never constantly. I know this can be difficult when you have stacks to shred, but do yourself a favor and just shred a small amount several times throughout the day. Whatever the sheet max is, divide by two. Also annoying, I know, but it's easier on the shredder and you decrease chances that you'll get a paper jam.
So, now about this shredder. I have had it for a several days now and so far I love it. My basic qualifications were cross cut and shredding CDs/DVDs. I did hours of research and decided on this one because of the generally good reviews. It was also the only model that shredded CDs/DVDs that was at a price that I felt was reasonable. The fact that it is mircocut is a bonus. It works very well. The first day I shredded 15 CDs and it worked with ease. Since then I have been working on a 2 inch stack of papers. I shred 4-5 pages at a time for a minute or less continuously. It doesn't feel hot or seem to strain at all. The only con I can see at this point is how you feed the paper. Its feeds in at an angle, to prevent fingers, ties, hair, etc from getting caught. I see the point, but it takes me and extra second or two to get the paper in, which gets annoying.
Overall, if you want a good shredder for mircocut and CDs/DVDs and you don't shred too much this is a good choice.
1/2/14 Update - I've had this shredded for almost a year now and it gets frequent home use. I still love it! Great product!
