(1) Sleek design. Great build and very lightweight. Doesn't disappoint. - I received this laptop for my work. I'm a Mac user at home. I appreciate good design especially with clean lines. No extra bumps or carvings that have unnecessary function than tacky aesthetics.

So this Lenovo ThinkPad X1 4th Generation fit the bill perfectly. It's super clean line, super flat, and super light. Everything around is smooth so placing it in or removing from a bag or backpack is effortless. In just pops in and out.

And yet despite the thin and lightweight design, it feels solid to touch and carry. Be careful the smoothness of the cover and back may have it slip from your hand while carrying. I've been carrying this to and from meeting rooms with no problem as long as you are conscious of what you're holding.

The top cover is fabricated from carbon fiber while the bottom is from magnesium. And then the button to power up the unit is also made of metal. So even powering up the device is a solid touch.

For something so thin, typing on the keyboard is actually a joy to use. It's not something you look forward to versus an actual desktop keyboard attachment, but it's something I don't mind using at all.

The screen is bright and crisp actually. My old laptop I hated transitioning from my dual desktop monitors to the laptop screen. But this one takes the pain away. I don't need to squint or zoom.

There is a biometric sensor built beside the trackpad for added security. Too bad my workplace disabled this feature for the time being. I can't wait to begin using this instead of typing a password.

Finally there is a docking port accessory which my workplace supplied so I can dock at my desk and use my usual dual monitors, keyboard and mouse. Instead of a solid base dock like in Dell laptops, Lenovo created their own OneLink+ which is a proprietary connection on the left side of the laptop. You plug in the OneLink+ cable rather than use a traditional docking ability. It's convenient and you can reposition your laptop anywhere in the desk rather than be dictated based on how a dock wants to dock into it. Because it's just a cable, you have the freedom to adjust.

Any cons?

Well, yes there are. I'm not into the OneLink+ cable. It's a bit too flimsy for me having to insert and remove daily. Plus you can only insert it one way. If they went this route I would prefer they invented something either magnetic or sleek to insert either way. Something like Apple's Lightning connector where inserting and removing is a breeze.

Like any laptop that's docked with the lid closed, there heat. You hear the fans blowing out every now and then and these are just simple office tasks.

Third, the track pad isn't as smooth and responsive as I wanted it to be. It's not as smooth as glass and not responsive like my Mac trackpad. I don't know how Apple does it, but scrolling there is smooth and effortless. Over here I have a learning curve when using it.

Overall, I love this work laptop and hope Lenovo can only improve generation after generation.
